Yuri Bashmet and his Moscow Soloists orchestra to perform at Arctic forum
World-acclaimed Russian viola maestro Yuri Bashmet and his Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra will give a concert on Thursday within the framework of the International Arctic Forum The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue.
"I think it its incredibly right that the Russian North is hosting a big international Arctic forum. And I am very pleased to perform within its framework with my chamber orchestra Moscow Soloists, which marks its 25th anniversary this year, and with two young soloists from the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Russia," he told TASS.
Formed by Yuri Bashmet from among graduates of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra made its debut in 1992. The orchestra has performed both in Russia and at many prestigious music venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Barbican Hall in London, the Tivoli in Copenhagen, the Berliner Philharmoniker and in Wellington, New Zealand. In 2008, the orchestra won a Best Small Ensemble Performance Grammy for its recording of music by Stravinsky and Prokofiev.
The Arctic Forum
The Arctic - Territory of Dialogue Fourth International Forum is held in Arkhangelsk on March 29-30. The TASS news agency is the forum’s general media partner.
The forum is one of key platforms for discussing problems and prospects of the Arctic region. Its goal is to unite efforts of the international community for the efficient development of the Arctic. The participants of the forum, held since 2010, discuss improving the quality of life in the Arctic territories, developing transport system and environmental issues.
